Mahatma Gandhi had said 'Farmer is the
backbone of the country'. In his vision it was only agriculture which
brings prosperity and development of the nation. Every prosperous farmer
can make prosperous and progressive India. This prosperity depends upon
more and more young farmers taking up scientific method and produce the
farming products efficiently and fruitfully. For this reason Dayalbagh
Agricultural Training Institute (DATI) is a small effort in this
direction to train, to motivate, to guide, to inspire and to strengthen
the farmer-youth to make a prosperous society.
THE SMALL BEGINNING..
The institute was formerly started in 1969 in picturesque, verdant
surroundings at the foothills of Charmady Ghats. Since then it began
short term training programmes in horticulture, poultry, piggery, rabbit
rearing and practical methods of grafting.
But it was in 1980 under the earnest and dedicated work of Fr.
Theophilus Pereira the school was named as Dayalbagh Agricultural
Training Institute and started two years of training classes. Currently
it is run by Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra, a voluntary organization,
managed by Franciscan Capuchin Friars, registered under the Registration
of Societies Act, Government of Karnataka.
PURPOSE:
The sole purpose of DATI is to impart training to the youth with
agricultural background in farm organization and management, farming
technology, animal husbandry and allied subjects and make them effective
leaders of rural economic and social development. The institute is open
to all rural youth of both sexes irrespective of caste and creed.
TRAINING YOUTH FOR BETTER FUTURE DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE
It is recognized by the department of employment and training,
Government of Karnataka and the syllabus is prescribed by the same
department, Government of India. Once in two years we have the
permission to take only 20 students who have completed SSLC. At the end
of two years examination in theory and practical and social studies is
conducted and certificates awarded to the successful trainees by the
Department of employment and Training, Government of India.
TRAINING IN PUC
With the Agricultural training they are trained for their PUC in
National Institute Open School, for which they are offered five subjects
namely, English, sociology, political science, history, and economics.
They are trained in the institution giving them profound knowledge and
personal attention.
TRAINING IN ENGLISH:
The trainees are given the best form of education to develop their
personality and communication skills. Since the English language is
widely spoken and used in different fields in this competitive world,
the students are compulsorily made to speak English and are helped to
develop their skills of speech and communication.
DTP COURSE:
DATI has now introduced Desk Top Programme (DTP) for the aspirants to
learn more about the computers and their operations, helping them to
build up their future. They are taught typing and other basics in
handling typing.
FRUIT OF OUR LABOUR:
As the fruit of our labour many students who have gone through this
institution have secured good results and are in better position , among
them some are holding offices in the Governmental Department, working in
the foreign countries as agriculturists.

CONCLUSION:
As the slogan goes "Jai Jawan and Jai Kisan", those who are
trained in a systematic way in this Agricultural Institute have reaped
the harvest of joy. They have helped themselves in generating
self-employment jobs or their own poultries and piggeries. Farming may
be the best way possible to generate the eco-friendly society. In
conclusion DATI has become a ray of hope in its own way for the drop
outs, poor, marginalized and destitute of the society helping them to
find a way out from their struggles and difficulties, thus getting the
best of (the best) education and values to build up their life.
